Another beautiful day in Upper Peninsula

Wintry night in the UP

The skies are blue, not a cloud in the sky.   About 27* and we were able to walk the lane all the way to the bottom of the hill and back.   Peered at all the different animal tracks, but couldn’t figure out what they might be.  Cassidy had a great time, running all over and sniffing all the different tracks.  Not bad for a winter day in February.

Unveiling Mackinac Bridge Stamp

The new Mackinac Bridge stamp was unveiled today in St. Ignace at the Bridge View Park.   We decided to take it in and it was very enjoyable.

Very majestic!  Nice job!!

Afterward we had to take some photos of the Mighty Mac!   It was cool, OK, down right “COLD”, but it was a pretty day.

It does look rather cold!!!

We never get tired of seeing “Our Beautiful Bridge”.   One thing that Michigan (especially “Northern Michigan”) can be very proud of……

We tried to feed them,   but they didn’t seem to be any around!!  Perhaps it was because it was too cold!!!     Smart birds,  they probably went “SOUTH” for the winter!!!

Anyway, that was our day today.   It was fun.   Read more »

A New Year 2010

OK, so it’s been awhile since I was on here.   Still trying to figure out how things work on here.   Just changed my theme and I think I like this one.

2009 wasn’t one of our better years, so we are looking forward to this year bringing us a renewed lease on life with many new and exciting things happening.

January was a good month.  Not too much snow and the cold was bearable.  Let’s see what February brings.

Just another day in Northern Michigan

Brrr… It’s cold this morning – 38*.  Not ready for this.  Suppose to rain and have some high winds.

No deer in the yard this AM.  Just a friendly little skunk.  Hope he leaves soon.  Cassidy, our black lab, wants to go out, but I think she will have to wait a little.

Getting ready to do the Gem and Mineral show in Holland, Michigan, at the Civic center.  It starts Friday and goes thru Sunday.  It’s a fun show, so stop on by if you are in the area.  Look BJ’s up and tell them you read their blog!

Got to go for now.   Many many things to do.

Deer eating apples

Today was the day to watch the deer eating the apples.    This morning there was  a nice 4 point buck under the apple trees just a munching away.  He was pretty.  Then around noon I was very surprised to see one right in our back yard munching on apples.  Later there were 3 in the front yard, 2 young ones and a doe.  Apparently they were hungry today.  They are so much fun too watch.

Hummingbirds at sunrise

After a very rainy day yesterday, I got up this AM to 49* and the sun just coming up over the trees.  It was a wonderful sight after yesterday with the rain coming down sideways!  As I stood there, I watched the hummingbirds and was amazed when I counted 5 of them all sitting in various places.  It’s not often that you will catch them sitting still.  I really think they were cold and trying to keep warm!  To have 5 at this time of year in Northern Michigan is a real treat.  It won’t be long and they will be heading south.   We will miss them.
